Used Tires vs New Tires

 Tire prices today are insane, by all means it is most likely cheaper to ride a bicycle, if possible. If you are in need of a new set of tires and wheels for your ride, then the dealer may be the most expensive place to get those tires and wheels. Aftermarket shops are a great alternative to the dealer.

Going to the dealer represents nothing more than a need to spend more money than you should, new aluminum wheels at the dealer run any where from $400 on up. It's just a factory wheel!!! That price is entirely too high, tires there may run you 20%-30% higher in price at the dealer as well. The cost difference between these different shops is always based on overhead, the higher the overhead the higher the mark up unless the volume is high as well.

At an aftermarket shop there are many options for tire and wheel combinations, they order from high volume suppliers, to ensure the best prices. That $400 for one wheel can easily turn into a set of four (4) new wheels for your vehicle.

Many times people go to the aftermarket shops to get larger wheels on their cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles (SUV). These wheels if over 20" in diameter are commonly refered to as dubs (street slang). Most of the time people do not have a hard time buying the first set of tires and wheels, its the replacement that is the kicker.

When replacing tires cheaper is normally better, not for quality, but for the checkbook. Used tires are another viable option due to the enormous amount of tire replacements. A new 20" tire may run $150-$300 depending on mounting, balancing, and the type of tire. Where as a used tire with the same quality may run $50-$100. Differing between New and used is really based on an individuals driving style.

If tires are being replaced every six(6) months due to road hazards(RH) then new is the best option between the two. Because of the pro-rated replacement plans many tire shops have. If you are getting six months out of tire because they are wearing out extremely fast then used is the better option.
